Need to be honest with clients. When I picked up the vehicle I was offered to pay $8.00 dls and not need to worry to return the vehicle with a full tank of gas which I agreed to pay the $8 dls. After i returned it I noticed they charged me $98.00 dls extra for filling up the tank when i returned the car with a 3/4 of the tank full. I’m very disappointed with Alamo how they still money.

I chose sixth because on KAYAK it says that their rental car agency is in the terminal as opposed to the shuttle. Every rental car agency in the San Diego airport is in the rental car center which is a long way away from the airport and requires waiting in a huge line to get to it. The counter was understaffed – I canceled on the spot and booked Avis which is what I should’ve done from the beginning

Vincent and Lauren both helped us a ton when a pickup error caused our reservation to go sideways. There needed to be a better explanation online that there are multiple pickup locations right by the airport that have different hours of operation.

Was told the vehicle wasn’t ready. He wanted to swap a Ram for a Tacoma, Told the I didn’t mind waiting I need the larger truck. They didn’t clean anything. Sail it had a full tank of fuel, but it’s only shipping a1/2 tank.

I took an uber to get to the CBX location. The guy at the desk brought up my reservation/confirmation code and said "We don't have a car for you because the reservation wasn't made more than 72 hours in advance." He also added that 'they almost never even have those kind of cars' (EV) and then just went back to looking at his computer. I asked what other options I had and he said none, they had no other cars and he again went back to what he was doing, completely ignoring me. I had to uber ($50+) to the downtown airport to get a car at a different agency/price because no-one at CBX had a car. I was warned by the SAN location and by the first uber driver that this was a franchise and that they often didn't have cars they said they had. Never ever again, because you are really stuck out there with no options, and it's a long way from anywhere. There was no notice that the reservation would not be valid because it hadn't been made more than three days before the pickup time, in fact it was quite the opposite. The Kayak email subject was "It’s official: you got a ride for San Diego" The body of the text said: You’ve secured your car for San Diego. Jun 8 - Jun 16 Let’s cruise, your trip is good to go. We saved your rental car info to our Trips tab to help you stay organized while you plan. Here are the details - you’re one step closer to your destination. (and then it showed all of the details of the reservation). Of course that led me to believe I was good to go :( Instead, it was hours on the phone as well as an expensive uber ride and a far more expensive on-the-spot car rental at SAN. Good help is hard to find, and the guy at AVIS/CBX was not good help at all with his 'you should have known better/dismissive' attitude.

They didn’t have the vehicle we booked. We went to the first lot at the airport but realized we had to take a cab to a different hertz dealer. Then they didn’t have the correct vehicle. They were going to send us to a third hertz, but we ended up settling for a different vehicle.

My rental was not at the expected location. When I searched in Kayak, I searched for car rentals near the San Diego airport. Apparently there is a small municipal airport near the border with Tijuana and there is a Hertz car rental location there which came up in my search. Since I would not have expected this type of option to come up in my search parameters, I did not think there was a need to check the address of the rental location. A mistake I will never make again. However, I also will never be using Kayak or Hertz again. I will not be using Hertz mainly because the person at the rental counter in the actual San Diego airport location was not willing to help me other than to indicate that I was at the wrong location and that I should go to that other location if I would like my rental car.

I put in San Diego Airport and it listed this place half an hour away, at a different little airport right next to the border. They were unprofessional and the agent was apathetic. Our flight was delayed a few hours and she said our reservation was cancelled because they only keep it for an hour after the pickup time you put on the reservation. I have never heard of that before anywhere else! So, they charged me about $70 more than the reservation I had set up!

Terrible experience overall. Stay far away from this place for many reasons: 1. Car rental facility is far from San Diego (on the border with Mexico), 2. Staff does not speak English. 3. No flexibility with rental terms. 4). Unreliable cars. Ours broke down the second to last day, with less than 50 total miles driven. Car had to be towed back. Never received so much as an apology (again, the language barrier), let alone an offer to remunerate for the giant fiasco that was this rental experience. Long story short, do not rent from them!

Charged fees for little thing (which were either not explained or hidden until after drop-off) and were not honest about the drop-off process. I was told I could drop the car off without issue after hours (flight at 10PM on Sunday, 7/28), however, they don't have after hours drop-off at their lot and I almost missed my flight due to not having any idea where to return the car.

The check-in line was long, which is understandable. However, the staff was so uninterested in welcoming people or talking at all. They just seemed like robots processing forms. At drop-off, they tried to suggest damage, which was already there, and mentioned dog hair in the car...which was somewhat offensive because we didn't have a dog in the car. The value, the shuttle to and from, and the car were excellent. Just have nicer employees, and it would be great!

I was promised SUV but they didn't have any. They gave me a mini van, I asked for a discount since minivans were cheaper to book than SUVs, I even showed it to him on Kayak.com right there. I demanded an SUV or better but I was not given. The guy did not even apologize for the inconvenience. it was just take it or leave it. I requested to cancel but they said they can't return money. I have to contact Expedia. I didn't even make reservation through Expedia. There is no shuttle from the airport to Economy Rent a Car. They said I should have received an Uber code but I never did The car was heavily dinged and I was not comfortable taking a car with so many scratches as they could claim I did some of them at return. Thankfully they did not. Still, I had to take extensive videos The gas tank for 3/4 full. How do you return 3/4 full gas tank? So I ended up losing 1/4 gas by returning full gas. Overall, not a good experience. At a minimum the guy could have been polite and considerate...that was the most disappointing part Will likely not rent from Kayak again since there is no way to ensure I'll get the model I pay for and it's not possible to get refund

I was initially supposed to get my rental for the price of $177 for two days, but by the time I was done at the rental counter, I owed over $400 for the same car and amount of days. Ace had great pricing and pickup and drop off was quick and easy. Jenny helped us check in and was very nice and helpful. She gave my wife and I several restaurant recommendations while we were in town for the weekend. Car was nothing special and drove a little bit run down, but it was fine for the few days we used it. Would use them again because of the customer service, ease of booking, and value.

I probably didn't read the correspondence carefully. My drivers license wasn't sufficient ID and they required a second form of ID. If I hadn't had one on me I would have had to go to another counter to rent. You should make that requirement in BOLD print so I can't skim past it.

Nothing because they said or we scheduled to pick up the car at 6:00 PM and it was confirmed. We received emails for 6:00 PM pickup. When we went for pickup they were closed and there was already a customer waiting who said he had have a really hard time getting a car there. The gates were closed, no car for us. The response was “guy leaves 6:00 pm on the dot” Really? Worst place to book from. Never book your car here unless you want to take the risk of not having a car to drive when you get there.

My vehicle was not ready on time so I had to return later. When I returned I was given the wrong vehicle, much less than I had paid for. The manager was not able to give discount because the rental was purchased thru Kayak. Will most likely never use Kayak or Fox again.

Pros:

Drop off and pick up was very easy

Cons:

We had our rental car broke into and staff that I called laughed at me saying my claim number was wrong. They also told me that if we needed to be picked up they couldn’t do it because we had a family of 5 and they could only take up to 4 people. So stayed that we had to find a ride to the airport ourselves or just drive it back in the condition it was in. They also told me that even though we had a bad situation happen if our car was not back on time we would get charged for it being late and entire extra day. We also we supposed to get a gull size car and we did not get that. Very disappointed and will not rent from them again!!!!

took awhile to get through the line at the counter for pick-up. And, when I needed to change the credit card I initially used, I couldn't do it at drop-off. it took quite a process to get it switched.

Cons:

Fox refused to honor the price agreed upon through Kayak. They were going to charge me $65 more per day. I will never rent with Fox and may never use Kayak again.

I’d say it was criminal that they charged us for things without telling us (eg supplemental insurance without asking or charging us for my husband as an extra driver’) only for us to find hundreds of dollars charged to our credit card; no email receipts sent; They do not answer phones or provide an option to leave a message; I had to call toll free # and they said to email with an address that doesn’t exist; I had to go in to discuss my needs and questions and waited over 30 minutes for someone to talk with me and I ended up just leaving because it was so chaotically run.

Shuttle from SD airport to main car park garage. Then NU picks up but not until after 8am. We arrived 7:30 and waited in cold on outside bench. Upon off site arrival one clerk to handle 3-4 customer groups. He was courteous but none of our cars were prepped for drive off. We waited 40+ minutes to get out, which was a lesser model than advertised. (Nissan Sentra vs Altima)

NU over charged me and said they would fix it when i returned the car. I asked for a receipt and they wouldn't give me one, said it would be emailed but i never got it. They owe me $40.82. when i called, the phone rang and rang. There is no email address, no other way of contacting them.

They completely overcharged with hidden fees with no explanation or receipt. Just charged more then $400 ok my credit card after I paid in advance the rental car fees.

Staff was friendly. They didn't have the car I reserved but gave me one that worked. Pick up took a long time and getting to/from the location is very inconvenient and inefficient. The car wasn't in full working order as it had several problems but none that were debilitating.

Not located at SD airport as shown in Kayak results. Two shuttle rides away. Upon finally getting there, line/wait was hours long. Some people reported no cars were available although they had a reservation.

Cons:

everything was great but did not receive a truck with a full tank. the dial gauge on the dashboard showed the nail as full but the digital fuel gauge showed fewer miles than how I returned it. I explained this to the rental agent but he just blew me off.

Pros:

My rental car was dead at noon June 15, 2021 on our way from San Diego to Yosemite National Park. We contacted National roadside assistance and they couldn't do anything to help. We had to be in the middle of nowhere under the heat of 100F. After 7 hours stranded, the tow truck came at 7:30 pm to tow the car and left our luggage on the street. The taxi came at 7:45pm to take us to the rental car office, but the office was closed at 5:00pm. Taxi only offered to take us to the nearby hotel and it had to be under our own expense. I couldn't stay at the nearby hotel because I already sent my under age children to the campsite close to the Yosemite National Park with a group of friends when the car broke down. I had to pay my friend to come back from campsite to car broke down location to pick us up and took us to the campsite while the Taxi denied to take us because it was too far. We had to spend $200 to cover that pick up. The road side assistance had confirmed that their agent at the airport close to the Yosemite NP had a reserve replacement car for us, but when we came to pick up the car. They had no car available; We had to call RSA and stayed on the phone with them hours and hours, I was stranded at the airport from 9:00 am to 3:45 pm on June 16, 2021 talked to a whole bunch of different people to end up with the smaller SUV that didn’t have enough room for everybody in my family and the luggage. Half of my family had to split with other cars within our group of friends. The rental car has ruined my family vacation. We had lost 2 vacation days. Instead of enjoying nature, we have been stranded on the road or the rental car office. We had lost our park’s fee and the campsite’s fee for nothing; the stress of dealing with the Roadside assistant customer service that won’t be able to help much drove us crazy. On the top of those issues, I have been charged almost $54 for the gas on the Buick Enclave and they didn’t give me the credit for the gas left on the Infiniti QX80 when the car was dead and it still had more than ½ tank of gas. With all of those issues National only give me credit of $199. I was so frustrated with National. I will never rent from National or deal with Kayak again. The worst customer service that I have ever deal with.

Supplier choice

Got in to the airport at 5:45. Apparently they close at 5:30pm. What kind of a rental car place closes? People depend on it. Horrible! Had to rent a car from someone else.

When I booked this rental, the description showed the rental center was off-site as were all the other major rentals, Avis, Budget, Dollar, etc. What WASN’T revealed until our plane landed was that a 2nd shuttle from the rental center was required. That shuttle dropped us at an office located through a garage into a grimy building with all vacant offices except the U-Save rental office. After completing the paperwork (which included a statement that there would be no price adjustments if the vehicle was returned early- which we did after experiencing the multi- shuttle issue), we had to walk down a hill to a parking garage to get the car. The vehicle itself, a Toyota Corolla, (these are now “standard”, not “compact”) was a brand new hybrid and worked well except for the 1 trip we took with all 5 of our party - a bit cramped. When we decided to return the car early to avoid the dual shuttle situation on our departure day, we were directed to wait in the dark, grimy garage for the shuttle to return. 5 other folks arrived with their luggage also. After waiting around 10 minutes, we decided to Uber back to the hotel. We trudged the 1/2 block up the hill from the garage (we’re 72 and 83 years old) , where the shuttle would have been also, and got an Uber with no problem. The Uber pulled up at the same time as the shuttle - which was a 7 passenger mini-van - it would’ve been a tight squeeze. Bottom line - decent car but not worth the aggravation. Spend a few more dollars for a name brand company. I wish we had.

U Save is not at the SD airport rental car area (which you already have to take a shuttle to). It is offsite from there and you have to call the company for their shuttle to take you. This was not noted anywhere in the rental information and we only found out when we arrived at the main rental car area and found it missing. We waited about 10min for the U Save shuttle after calling the company- not bad. The car itself was fine but the process was a little inconvenient as we had to take 2 shuttles to get the car. Then after returning the car, had to take 2 shuttles to get back to the airport (the U Save shuttle took about 10min to arrive, so again not too bad). Even with the savings, I probably would’ve skipped this company knowing what I know now, as I was traveling with 2 young kids and my elderly parents.

The price quoted, agreed and paid in advance was not the final price. When I went to collect the car, I was quoted an additional $300 for extra insurance which is only a company policy and not state law. Consequently, I did not collect the car and hired from a different company. I was assured by the pick-up desk that my credit card would not go through, but I have still been charged $640 dollars for a car I did not collect. DO NOT USE.

Booked a van pickup 5pm and drop off at same time 2 days later. The day off, 3 hours before pickup, I get a phone call from the location telling me I need to pickup an hour early because they decide to close at 4 “today”. Of fine. “Oh and also you need to drop off before 10am in 2 days because we will be closed at 10am”. “Or you can pay an extra $60 for late drop off”. What?? Late drop off would mean I extend pass my 24h, which I’m not!! If you decide to close early how does that become my problem?? Very disappointing.

Cons:

Booked a van for 2 days w/ 150 mile per day. Arrived at location to be told that policies “of this specific branch” have changed and are now 150 “per rental” (!!!??) Long story short it’s obvious Non sense. Worker at location didn’t show any compassion and on the phone corporate couldn’t do anything because “we are reservation center and customer center only works week days”. Customer service non existent, bummer for loyal and respectful customers like us but I guess that’s the way it goes now.

I can accurately rate this—they never showed up to pick me up. I waited a half hour for the shuttle and finally had to rent another car because I had a meeting in another town. I sincerely hope they didn’t charge my credit card.

Cons:

Poor attitude. Had to wait for an hr and dealt with screw you attitude from the front desk. The place was dirty and shady. The van was old (60k + miles) and dirty. It was conveniently near the airport so that is a plus. Most of all is the lady at the front desk who was awful.

Pros:

The staff was friendly and helpful. The drop off was super easy. We had a terrific vehicle for the cost.

Cons:

Didn't love that we had to go to the transit center for rentals & from there take another van (that we had to call & wait for). Also, we had to return by 2 or be charged extra to return it later to a different location (it was a Sat)- those were the only downsides to an otherwise great experience.
