The 10 best hotels in Boston

Discover the top hotels in Boston handpicked by local expert J.Q. Louise.
J.Q. Louise
December 6, 2023

Boston is a city of juxtaposition – we have the oldest subway in America, but we also have some of the newest skyscrapers, restaurants, and hotels. As a city filled with history and heritage, Boston is a great choice for a vacation for couples, families, and friends who are looking to both explore a beautiful coastal city and have a lot of fun. From Red Sox games to walks along the Esplanade, a trip to Boston is a blast all year round. But if you aren’t a fan of the cold, you may want to visit in the summer or fall, because it does get chilly here towards the end of the year. Boston is my favorite city in the world and to make your next trip here easier, I have rounded up the best hotels in Boston.

1.

Four Seasons Hotel One Dalton Street, Boston

Address:

1 Dalton Street

Price:

$581-2306/night

If you love modern, chic hotels, The Four Seasons One Dalton is one of the top boutique hotels in Boston. Its location at the heart of Back Bay provides easy access to attractions, upscale shopping, and fine dining.
The building is an architectural masterpiece: A glass tower standing tall amongst Boston’s historic brownstones, the Four Seasons One Dalton is one of the most striking buildings in the whole city. Impeccable service is at the core of any Four Seasons experience, and that is no different here.
The hotel boasts an array of world-class facilities, including a state-of-the-art spa, a huge indoor pool, and dining options including the trendy Zuma restaurant and their very own Trifecta bar, which is perfect for a drink before dinner. And the best part is you can dress up as much as you want as the bar is usually filled with lots of chic guests.

2.

The Newbury Boston

Address:

1 Newbury Street

Price:

$487-2142/night

The Newbury Hotel is nestled in the Back Bay overlooking the Boston Public Garden, which happens to be the oldest public park in America – and trust me, it is a view worth traveling for. Each meticulously designed guest room and suite exudes sophistication, featuring plush furnishings, modern amenities, and of course stunning city views.
The Newbury Hotel boasts a personalized approach to service, with a dedicated team ensuring every guest’s needs are met. The boutique feel of the service combined with the resources of a bigger hotel make this one of the most unique hotels in Boston.
Be sure to make time for dinner and drinks at the Street Bar on the lobby level or head up to the roof to the always-trendy Contessa.

3.

The Ritz-Carlton Boston

Address:

10 Avery Street

Price:

$537-2470/night

With its prime location in the heart of downtown, the Ritz-Carlton Boston is a great choice for travelers who want to earn Bonvoy points and be close to nightlife, theaters, and lots of dining – which makes it one of my personal favorite spots to stay in Boston.
Just steps from pretty much any neighborhood in the city, the Ritz is one of the top-rated hotels in Boston and not only for location. Whether you plan on running around town or cannot decide what you want to do, your days will be convenient when you book a stay here. Indulge at the hotel restaurants, Artisan Bistro, and the Avery Bar. Both offer some great people-watching opportunities and amazing food and drink.

4.

Boston Harbor Hotel

Address:

70 Rowes Wharf

Price:

$429-1911/night

For guests that are looking for luxury hotels in Boston outside of the big brands, check out the Boston Harbor Hotel. No stranger to opulence, the Boston Harbor Hotel boasts the city’s most expensive Presidential Suite, and the property is something of an insider’s secret.
Located right on the waterfront, this is one of the best hotels to stay in Boston with stunning views of the harbor, and in the summertime, you can enjoy watching the boats and ferry zip across the water (something I love doing!).
Speaking of the summertime, be sure to take full advantage of the amazing patio restaurant, the Rowes Wharf Bar, for some tasty seafood, pasta, and perhaps even a few cocktails on a summer Friday.

5.

The Langham, Boston

Address:

250 Franklin Street

Price:

$380-2563/night

The Langham, Boston is one of the most luxurious fancy hotels in Boston. Located in the Financial District, this is an excellent choice if you are coming to Boston for business.
However, if you are visiting for pleasure, I find it a smart choice because it is just minutes from the famous North End neighborhood, which is filled with Italian restaurants, as well as the trendy Seaport neighborhood – which has some of the city’s best shopping and nightlife.
No matter why you are visiting, The Langham, Boston is one of your best bets. Also, the hotel just went through a complete renovation, so everything is top notch – the rooms, restaurants, meeting room, spa, and more are all truly 5 stars.

6.

The Eliot Hotel

Address:

370 Commonwealth Avenue

Price:

$339-1161/night

Established in 1925, this iconic hotel has stood the test of time and has become one of the stylish boutique hotels in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood. Originally designed as an apartment building, it was later converted into a hotel and has since been a favorite among travelers seeking a blend of classic elegance and modern comfort.
The hotel’s commitment to preserving its historic character while providing contemporary amenities for guests is its trademark and one of the reasons I consider it a must-visit. Therefore, if you love the kind of townhouse-style hotels you normally find in London, this is for you.
There is no other hotel like it in Boston, so the Eliot is special in that regard. It is an all-suite hotel and each one is classically designed and very traditional. Also, the hotel is home to one of Boston’s best restaurants, Uni.

7.

Fairmont Copley Plaza Boston

Address:

138 Saint James Avenue

Price:

$256-1646/night

Another historic hotel worth checking out is the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel. Open since 1912, this architectural masterpiece has been central to Boston’s travel scene for over a century. As soon as you set foot in the grand lobby, you feel as if you have entered a palace hotel in Europe.
Often a location for big dinners, weddings, and parties, you must take a sneak peek into the entertainment spaces throughout the hotel – the ballrooms are stunning, and you will see why so many of Boston’s elite host events in this amazing spot. Also, the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel has one of the best bars in Boston. Oak Long Bar + Kitchen is often voted as one of the top bars in the city due to the fantastic bartenders and great ambiance.

8.

Mandarin Oriental, Boston

Address:

776 Boylston Street

Price:

$629-3766/night

The Mandarin Oriental Boston is all about offering a refined escape right in the midst of everything. The moment you step into the marble lobby, it’s like you’re instantly transported away from the city’s chaos. They recently went all out with a $15 million renovation, giving the rooms and suites a much-deserved makeover.
The team wanted to ditch any hint of impersonal vibes and went for a cozy and inviting atmosphere, which I find very fitting and homey. If you want to feel like you own a swanky condo in a high-rise in the Back Bay, book a stay at the Mandarin Oriental, easily one of the best hotels in Boston. Offering up the top-notch level of service you find at MO’s all over the world, we are proud to have such a big name in town.

9.

Encore Boston Harbor

Address:

1 Broadway

Price:

$244-1451/night

While technically located in Everett, MA, if you are looking for a casino experience, this is the closest option near Boston. And trust me, this is not some rinky-dink casino, this is a Vegas-level casino from Wynn. Offering the same level of grandeur you will find at their Vegas casino hotels, Encore Boston is a luxe place to be. Book this hotel for an extravagant urban getaway. Whether you want to book out a few rooms for a girl’s trip or a big suite for a romantic weekend, Encore Boston will not disappoint.
The rooms are plush, high tech, and all have stunning views of the Boston skyline. I guess the best perk of not technically being located in Boston is that you get to look at it from a distance – and from your comfortable bed, this is not bad at all!

10.

W Boston

Address:

100 Stuart Street

Price:

$269-2828/night

The W Hotel Boston is always a fun choice. Located smack dab in the heart of the Theater District, it makes a fine choice if you are a theater lover. With all the theaters within walking distance, you can enjoy your favorite shows with ease.
There is also an abundance of restaurants and nightlife in the area as well. Also, it is worth noting that the W Boston is right on the edge of Chinatown, so there is lots to explore in this fun neighborhood. From the moment you set foot into the stylish lobby, you will become enveloped in a world of chic – from the hip staff to the dark tones and the vibey music playing in the background, you will know your weekend in Boston is going to be a hoot.
