FAQs - booking Florida flights

  • I’m flying to Florida to visit Disney World in Orlando. What is the best airport?

The best airport for those visiting Disney World is the Orlando International Airport, from which you can take the complimentary bus "Disney’s Magical Express" straight to the hotels at the Disney World Resort. The bus must be booked in advance.

  • I’m traveling to Miami. Which airport should I fly into?

Miami International Airport (MIA) is the closest to Miami’s city center and is where most major airlines fly into. If your goal is to have a short commute from the airport to the city center, then this airport is the best option, but keep in mind that it’s also one of the busiest airports. • I’m taking a cruise from Fort Lauderdale. Which airport should I fly into?

Passengers for cruises departing from Port Everglades should fly into Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport (FLL). Not only is it the closest airport to the cruise ship port and the city center, but the airport partners with the cruise lines to aid passengers in transit from the flight to the cruise. Those services include a cruise line employee who will meet you at baggage claim, as well as transportation to and from the cruise.

The closest airport in Florida to the Everglades National Park is the Miami International Airport 30m away. After arriving at the airport, you can rent a car or book a shuttle service to travel to one of the entrances of the park. The Shark Valley Visitor Center is the entrance to the park closest to the airport (45m).

  • How long is the flight to Florida?

An average nonstop flight from the United States to Florida takes 2h 54m, covering a distance of 1106 miles. The most popular route is Newark - Fort Lauderdale with an average flight time of 3h 00m.

  • How does KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a given destination and date is likely to change within 7 days, so travelers know whether to wait or book now.

  • If you’re planning a beach vacation to the Sunshine State, keep in mind when searching for flights to Florida that some airports are closer to the beach than others. Key West International Airport (EYW) is one mile away from the nearest beach. Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is 3.5 mi from the coast, and Miami International Airport is 12 mi from the famous Miami Beach.
  • If budget is on your mind when planning your trip but you'd like to book your ticket with a major airline, search for flights to Florida that land in Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport, Tampa International Airport (TPA), or Palm Beach International Airport.
  • Orlando is famous for Disney World, but if you're not traveling to Orlando for the resort, you should consider one of the other two main airports in the city. Those are Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) and Orlando Melbourne International Airport (MLB). Keep in mind that both airports serve fewer airlines, most of them operating budget flights.
  • Travelers flying into Florida for Daytona racing events should look for flights to Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB), which will be the closest airport. Alternative airports include Orlando International Airport (MCO) (1h), Orlando Sanford International Airport (1h), and Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) (2h).
  • If you’re planning to travel with your dog to Florida, be aware that dogs are only allowed on specific dog beaches. Traveling with JetBlue from NYC was convenient as accessing JFK airport was straightforward via the LIRR to the AirTrain. Maneuvering through the terminal was hassle-free, which was a pleasant start to the journey. However, the flight experience itself left much to be desired. The seating arrangement was notably uncomfortable; despite securing a window seat, space felt cramped. This was exacerbated by the middle seat passenger encroaching on my area, which made the flight less enjoyable. Additionally, while the in-flight entertainment system initially seemed like a reprieve, the sound outlet on my seat was inoperable. This issue turned what could have been a manageable three-hour flight into a rather tedious ordeal, as I was unable to use the entertainment system effectively. While JetBlue provided a smooth process in terms of airport logistics, the on-board experience highlighted areas in need of improvement, particularly in terms of comfort and entertainment system maintenance.

The flight crew that we had in our section may have been tired or something. I asked the flight attendant about my son’s screen not working and she spoke down to me like I was stupid. He still had no working screen throughout his flight. The other members had no personality and seemed like they were annoyed when you asked them for something. Definitely took a hit for simple things on my JB experience.

Som delays but overall we almost made it on the original time.

They put me on a chair in between two men, one overweight who was almost falling on top of me, and the other was even uncomfortable because I was half falling because of what the other was pushing me. I stayed with. my feet were swollen from fluid retention and from being unable to accommodate myself. it was very uncomfortable. I asked for help but they told me that the flight was full and they couldn't help me. I got off the plane almost unable to walk due to the inflammation. and then at FLL airport I asked for help because I couldn't go to my next flight, which was a connection.

Run out of snack choices. Why are the seats not padded for your butt? Are we sitting on blocks of wood or metal for $250-300 a pop? This ain’t spirit. Let’s get it together people

Safe and on time were the positives. The plane wasn't cleaned before boarding, there was garbage and food on the floor and in the seat pocket. The TV screen was small and the picture fuzzy, audio quality was poor. Seatbelt was fraying and seat did not recline properly. No charging ports near the seats,

Terrible. Flight was cancelled due to the weather in the east and sout east(florida). Did not get any compesation of any kind. According to them, it was not under their control so I lost all the money paid for the 2 fairs from Raleigh, NC to Orlando, Fl.

There were multiple delays but JetBlue tried to make the boarding and departure process as quick and efficient as possible. The crew was as detached from reality as could be, meaning: not very friendly and just doing things by the numbers.

40 minute delay before take off after boarding flight. Bright lights throughout night flight due Issues with light panels. In flight Entertainment nonfunctional

Another horrible Jet Blue experience. This airline has suffered the biggest decline of all from best to worst. TVs didn’t work (again). internet was temperamental. Boarded late and couldn’t get organized to serve snacks.

The plane was delayed ~ 40 minutes. Communication could have been better. The entertainment was poor. We were not offered headsets by the flight attendants. The arm rest pad did not work properly, thus, I could not select what I wanted to watch.

The flight was mostly on time, smooth and deplaning was quick. Baggage was really quick at the claim. Comfort was so-so and I paid for economy plus. It was still too crowded and why was a family of 5 scattered all around the plane?

Pot and crew did a tremendous job landing in Savannah in the middle of the tropical storm. !!

Exceptional, I’d like to specifically recognize Robert for his outstanding customer service. He is professional, pleasant, and personable.

Our flight was delayed several times. It left 9 hours after scheduling. We had to sleep in the airport.

We boarded and buckled and then deplaned due to no pilot. Had to wait over 3 hours for a new pilot. Not weather related, just poor management.

Flying to anchorage would have been cool but the weather got in the way

Didn't make it dir to delays - no support from United staff

A/C still wasn't working. Luckily it was only a 14 minute flight

A/C wasn't working. Made the 1.25 hour flight seem like 4 hours! Even at altitude it didn't cool down.

There was a serious delay of almost 2 hrs to departure.. it would have been to be told what caused the delay. Apart from the delay, boarding and the flight itself went smoothly.

Flight departed on time and arrived a bit early. Can’t go wrong with that! And makes a travel experience go so well

WiFi wasn’t working on the flight, several delays and gate changes, ended up taking off 3 hrs later

The flight was quick which gave me more time to get to my other flight.

Terrible. We had about a 3 hours delay which led to us missing our connecting.

It was the worst experience ever. Cabin temperature cold, for which they did not have any blankets upon my asking. We paid $125 extra for each passenger to get extra space sits; the sits were ridiculously small, tight, and uncomfortable! The flight attendant dropped ice on me and my sister! All in all, American Airlines deserves below zero!

My flights had excessive delays, alleged mechanical problems, and overall terrible customer service

The inability to be flexible when you need to change a Basic Economy flight, when your company demands you book through a third party, causes raw feelings about the whole experience. A major airline should realize business and personal plans change all the time. I must save my company money on travel. Even if you have to charge me for the change, I get it. But being so rigid with a policy is not the best customer service.

Absolutely the worst experience. We were 5 hours delayed due to mechanical issues and a crew timing out. We were not offered any concession. When I asked for a meal voucher, they gave me $12. You can get a bottle of water for that at the airport. Offensive.

Departure down was really rough and ended up getting motion sickness on the flight

Spirit cancel my flight. Many times happen in my travels.

Cancelled after 3 hour delay with no aside from a rebooking three days later.

The flight was delayed by 10 hours because there was no flight attendant available. We ended up getting a refund. I can't believe Spirit does not have contingencies in place for this. I will never book on this airline again.

Spirit just keeps getting better and better. Kudos to the crew who were going out of their way to help a mother with a baby who was a little overwhelmed.

The length of delays were extremely frustrating. Stuck in airport for hours. We were to get meal vouchers but it was 3 hours until someone responded to me from their WhatsApp and they said wait for an email. Still no vouchers and it’s been 24 hours. Terrible customer service. The ppl at the gates and bag checkin were miserable and not helpful

Our flight was delayed four hours and staff did nothing to accommodate the issue.

Would have been better if I would’ve made it on my flight but it was delayed twice and then canceled and now I’m stuck till Monday which was and extra 5 days I did not count on .

Delays and sending me to different terminal for departures. It looked very confusing and disorganized

Spirit's website on mobile did not work. Check-in kiosk would not allow us to check in at 12:09 for a 12:52 departure. Went to front desk, they said we had missed our flight and there was nothing they could do, would not offer a refund, and we're extremely rude and condescending. They said if we had checked in at 12:07 they could have given us our boarding pass. We spent $650 to take a different flight on Southwestern. When we got to the gate and sat down at 12:25, Spirit had delayed their departure time for our original flight to 1:54. I've never been more irritated while flying. I will never book another flight through Spirit again.

Everything was on time. Several passengers were rude/impatient when deplaneing at both FLL and PNS - but this is our society today w/ no common courtesy.

Horrible my trip was delayed 3 hours, we already have set in the plane and they delayed the flight.

Checking in was easy and simple, crew was nice and efficient, but I would improve seat assignment randomness to make it easier to sit together based on when you check in. Overall would fly with them again.

It was delayed 9 hours for operational reasons, despite the plane arriving to the airport on time.

I am very disappointed with Frontier Airlines. They cancelled our flight because they couldn't find a crew member, and then didn't get us to our connecting flight. We had to cancel our whole vacation. We were promised flight and hotel vouchers, but they never sent them.

I fly Frontier because it’s affordable. I understand that the seats are tight and not the most comfortable…but that’s part of it. The problem with this flight was that there was a group of travelers directly behind me at the back of the plane who were ridiculously loud and obnoxious the entire flight. I’m pretty sure they were drunk and I could periodically smell an odd odor that I believe was one of them using a smokeless vape pen. The stewards had to remind them to keep quiet during the pre-flight instruction, but that was it. They never said another thing to them for the rest of the flight. It was a miserable.

Six hour delay. Poor customer service. No voucher. Bad communication. Missed important appointments.

I purchased a carry on bag online…was supposed to cost $72 but after a whole slew of bs charges, the total was over $175.00. Because of these hidden charges, I will not even consider flying Frontier ever again. It’s just not worth the hassle. I’m scratching this company off my list forever.

Flight delayed 3 times, resulting in late arrival, rental car place gave car away resulting in increased BS charges because I was late. Frontier blows.

It was impossible to change a carry-on for a checked bag after the initial selection. The flight was delayed 14 hours "to allow for a late arriving aircraft." The seats were shockingly uncomfortable. This was only the second time I've seen seats that didn't recline in an airline. The first was in an East Bloc airline before the fall if the Iron Curtain.

First time flying Frontier, I am not sure the Ala Carte menu of options is for me.
